Yesteryears’ hero Tarzan, Gordon Scott, dies at 80

In the 1950s Tarzan movies were big hits and Gordon Scott was a household name and an icon for thousands of children. Actor Gordon Scott, who played Tarzan roles in many movies has passed away. He was 80 years old. St. Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore’s spokesman has confirmed that Scott died after developing complications after a heart surgery.

Scott spent his last days with actress Betty Thomas and her husband Roger, the latter was a great fan of Scott as well. For nearly eight years Scott lived with them.

Actress Betty Thomas who visited him just before his death said:

He opened one eye for a moment and gave me a wink.

Scott made his Tarzan debut in 1954 and played a protagonist in 24 movies. He was a lifeguard before becoming a successful actor. Besides Tarzan movies Scott did some westerns and gladiator movie as well.

His grandson Danton Burroughs said:

He was an absolutely wonderful Tarzan, who played the character as an intelligent and nice man who carried himself well, much as my grandfather had originally written it.

Scott married Vera Miles with whom he fell in love during the making of his first film Tarzan’s Hidden Jungle. However the things did not go quite well and the couple separated four years later.

Though Tarzan is dead but his heroic tales would live for long.
