We all have this fascination for superheroes who can do just about anything. But did you know that there are actually super humans who have survived without food and water for days together?

Known as the Iron Lady of Manipur, she is a civil right and political activist. She started her hunger strike on 2nd November 2000 in protest against the Malom massacre. Her main demand was that the Indian Government must revoke the Armed Forces (Special Power) Act. She announced on 26th July 2016 that she will end her fast on 9th August 2016 but her fight will continue.

He is an Indian yogi who has claimed that he has not eaten or had any fluids from past 70 years. He claims that heavenly nectar is poured into his mouth by a Goddess. He was tested by Indian investigators and was also kept under observation. He did not eat anything nor did he pass out any waste.

This Swedish man remained buried under the snow in his car for two months. He claims that he survived by just having a handful of snow. He claims that he was in the car since 19th December 2011 and he was found in February 2012.

Known as the Buddha Boy,he is famous for meditating without water and food for 10 months. In fact, he became a major tourist’s attraction in Nepal. In order to check if this was a hoax, he was observed by cameras for 96 hours but he showed no signs of dehydration. He then suddenly disappeared as he was not getting peace due to so much public attention.

He is a Christian House Church leader and lives in exile. He was considered as a rebel among Chinese and was arrested. He has written in his book that he was beaten in prison and he fasted for 74 days without food and water. He finally miraculously escaped from the high-security prison.

He was an English animal rights activist who went on a 68 days hunger strike demanding a public enquiry by the British Government into animal testing. The hunger strike had a bad effect on his eyesight and even his kidney got damaged. But that did not stop Barry. Three years later he was again on hunger strike. He had not eaten anything for almost a fortnight and he died of liver failure.

He led the Irish hunger strike in the year 1980. This was mainly because the British Government withdrew the special category status for convicted paramilitary prisoners. Hughes along with six republican prisoners refused to eat. He had promised one of the strikers McKenna that he will call off the strike if McKenna went into the coma. He called off the strike after 53 days when McKenna was on the verge of death.

He is an American magician and illusionist. He started his endurance stunt in the year 2003. He was sealed in a transparent Plexiglas case which was suspended 30 feet in the air on the banks of river Thames. For 44 days Blaine did not eat anything and survived only on water.

This Australian man survived without food in the freezing Himalayas for 43 days. All he ate was melted snowballs and one caterpillar.

In 1963, a small plane in which Helen Klaben and Ralph Flores were travelling crashed in the mountains of British Columbia. They survived the crash and lived on melted snow for 49 days till they were discovered by a bush pilot.

These are the stories of normal human beings who have done these extraordinary things for survival, rights etc. Whatever the reason their acts are truly exemplary.
