A 14-year old girl from Bihar has asked the President of India Abdul Kalam to either give her justice or the permission to die. She wrote a letter to the President and said that she is a victim of rape. She has written that she cannot bear the continued threats coming from the family of the alleged rapist and other people who belong to his caste.

Last year, the police had arrested the alleged rapist after the complain lodged by the girl. He is now in a local prison. The family members of the accused have said that he has been falsely accused.

On the other hand, the girl has written the letter to Kalam in his own handwriting and said that she and her family members are getting threats from the family members of the accused.

BBC has reported the content of that letter as

Respected Kalam uncle. Please save me, get me justice or give me permission to die. I am unable to bear all the pain and torture by the family members of the rapist and his powerful caste men of the village. I want him punished so severely that he cannot rape another poor, innocent girl in the village. I also want no further problems or harassment for my family. The alleged rapist’s elder brother beat me up and threatened he would rape my younger sister. Life has become a burden to me forcing me to think of taking my life.

The girl lives with her grandfather, stepmother and siblings in a northern village in Bihar. Her father works in Delhi.

According to the police report, the incident had happened in September last year. After the complain, his neighbor was detained by local police. Now, the case has been gone to fast track court and the girl said that alleged rapist’s family has started putting pressure on her family to withdraw the case.

When the girl was asked why she opted to write to Kalam, she answered:

What could I do? There was no way out. I have heard that the president loves children and likes to listen to them, so I wrote to him as a last resort.
