The establishment and running of Industries in Bihar is a distant dream till yet. Bihar is on the path of overall revival and the government is working hard to introduce the new-age industrial development in Bihar.

But, the problems in land acquisition are making hurdles in the economic revival plan of the state. The rural sector has become the biggest obstacle in the dream to make the state front-runner in the Industries sector.

The state government has been cleared numbers of projects in recent past but the projects are still in the files as there is no land available. The sugar industry is the most-affected despite of having the potential to turnaround the rural economy of Bihar.

The government has an indication of that and it has given green signal for the 14 Greenfield sugar projects and 19 Ethanol generation units So far.

But the worst part of the story is that the government could not arrange land not even for any single proposed units.

The Nitish government has announced that there will not be any forceful land acquisition in the state. On the other hand, the farmers are not ready to give their land for the government projects.

In a process to solve the problem, the government had prepared an attractive land acquisition policy in February.

In this policy, the government has offered 50 per cent over and above Government rates plus an additional compensation between 30 to 60 per cent to the landowners. But the policy met with the same fate as the market price of agricultural land is much above the government rate.

Sugarcane Development Minister Nitish Mishra said that every farmer wants sugar mills but none of them is ready to give land for it. The political opponents are also misleading the farmers and derailing the projects. This is really disastrous.

At the same time, filmmaker Prakash Jha’s P&M Infrastructure has successfully arranged land on its own for its new sugar mill in Gurawlia of West Champaran district. This has given some sign of hope to the government that the Bihar would definitely experience the new-age Industrial development.
