Finally…the paternity of Anna Nicole Smith’s 7-month-old daughter Dannielynn has been confirmed and Smith’s former boyfriend Larry Birkhead has been identified as the biological father after DNA tests were released by a Bahamas court.
A California-based photographer, Birkhead emerged from a court house in the Bahamas on Tuesday and announced,
I told you so. My baby is going to be coming home pretty soon.
Playboy Playmate died Feb. 8 in a Florida hotel at 39. And her former boyfriend Birkhead was battling paternity since the baby girl was born.
Asked what he thought his ex-girlfriend, Smith, would think of the news, Birkhead told reporters,
I think she would be proud that I fought it.
However, Smith’s lawyer and companion Howard K.Stern, who had signed the baby’s birth certificate and asserted under oath in a Florida court last month that he was the father, embraced Birkhead outside the courtroom. He said,
I am obviously very disappointed… I am not going to fight Larry Birkhead for custody. I will do everything I can to make sure he gets sole custody.
Stern further added that he’d like the custody transition to be ‘gradual’ so Dannielynn can adjust. Still no ruling has been made on the issue of custody. Birkhead’s attorney told press, We’ll be back in court on Friday in the afternoon.
We’ve got some other issues to deal with (The judge) hadn’t made any ruling about custody yet.
But this saga can take another turn also as Smith’s estranged mother, Virgie Arthur, might challenge Birkhead for the custody of Dannielynn.
