Did CNBC anchor’s wife kill him?

Sherlock Holmes often lamented to Watson that more wives murdered their husbands than one would want to reckon. Marriage, after all provoked the strangest passions. A $300 million hedge-fund manager, a Manhattan dandy with offices in Park Avenue has been found dead in his private home-pool by his wife. Seth Tobias counted real-estate mogul Donald Trump among his friends. Seth was a sought after CNBC finance-anchor too. He was the proverbial all-American guy killed by heart attack.

Only, after about three months of his death we find he was gay, high on cocaine and his marriage was a just a facade for peccadilloes with flamboyant male prostitutes. His wife, Filomena has been accused of murdering Seth by his assistant Bill Ash aka Mr. Madam. Independent News UK reports Mr. Madam to have been a pimp working under the infamous, ‘Hollywood Madam’, Heidi Fleiss who supplied women to debauched celebrities.

Filomena, Bill Ash says, enticed her drugged husband to the pool promising a sex-show with their latest West Pal Beach gigolo, Tiger. There he was killed by drowning. The deceased’s four brothers have started a civil lawsuit against Filomena accusing her of murder. The story could not get more predictable when we remember that Seth Tobias’s estate is worth upwards of $25 million.

Was this death waiting to happen? Who should be held responsible for all the slush and hypocrisy of Seth’s life? Why did this young man not find peace in spite of making more money than some of us can ever dream of?

Apathy and boredom increase with more wealth. Money affords us the leisure to indulge the senses ad infinitum. We have in India, the apparently happily-wed Manindher Singh Pandher who abused kids before killing and cannibalising them. Ordinary events can no longer excite men like Pandher and Seth. They need drugs and perverted sexual titillations to break the monotony of their money-dulled lives. Thus they break taboos. Seth Tobias had been known for absenting work periodically for take time off for gay parties and cocaine binges. In 2006 his marriage nearly broke due to these habits of his. Filomena had at that time wanted to leave him over his flirtations with both women and men. A person can only take so much. Can we blame Filomena for killing her husband for the virile Tiger? Of course, the liberty to use her husband’s money as she wishes is not less of a motive for murder.

Seth Tobias is not unique anywhere in the world, leave alone the US. Afghanistan’s manly warlords too practice pederasty. The rich and the famous are known to smoke their hashish away from the media’s prying eyes. And women and men everywhere are unfaithful to their spouses. But not all are murdered for these crimes. He was a sick man needing help, not a villain to be butchered.
