The fading joint family system in India and other innumerable societal factors have twisted the scenario and given rise to west-inspired phenomena of old age homes.

Currencies devalue, uprising cost of living and scanty return on savings have almost pushed Senior citizens on roads, infact this situation has triggered the security net of the senior citizens, which has almost vanished in many states in India with Kerala topping the list. oldies3

NDTV Reports:

More and more old women are knocking on the doors of old age homes in Kerala, but there isn’t enough room to accommodate all the ageing citizens of the state.

Kerala has about 30 lakh people over the age of 60, the largest geriatric percentage in the country, and this figure is expected to go up to 80 lakh over the next 15 years……

This situation will worsen as a major part of the population comes to live in over-crowded cities. It is a scary thought for this young generation of ours.
