In India, almost 75,000 people commit suicide every year and there are so many reasons behind this such as health problems and mental disorder. The Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss has disclosed the disquieting data to the media. He said:
Suicide in India is a major threat and nearly 75,000 people commit suicide every year. Poverty, debt, illiteracy and mental imbalance are the main reasons behind the rising suicide rate in India.
He also said that almost 7-8% of India’s population is facing various kinds of mental problems. Almost 15 million people need special care to restrict the growing problem of attempting suicides in India.
The problem has been taken a worse form as because of mental illness more than l00,000 people try to commit suicide in the country every year. Later, the minister accepted the failure of government sponsored mental health programs.
At the same time, he said that the health ministry is in the process of reviewing the running programs to restrict the problem. Doctors would be given the basic mental health training at the primary healthcare centers. The rural part of the country is prone to this problem. The MBBS doctors would be appointed at the sub-division and district levels.
According to the data, the rate of committing suicide is more in older men than younger men. Experts say that treatment of mental health in India is still a unthinkable. India has 3,000 psychiatrists but US has 6,000 working Indian psychiatrists.
Mental disorder is considered as more a behavioral disorder rather than a health problem in India. The root cause behind the rising tendencies of attempting suicides are such as growing stress, increasing competition and feeling of loneliness among old people.
Failures cannot be sustained in today’s fast life. From students to working people, everybody is living stressed life to become first, which later results in depression and metal illness.
