Mautitius offers Agalega Islands to India to make it tourist hub

Mauritius has offered to give the Agalega Islands to India. According to the Times of India reports, the Agalega Island is near to India territory than any other country near-by.

India has the planning to develop the Island as a tourist destination. With this development, India will able to establish greater strategic presence in the Indian Ocean also.

The offer made by the Mauritius government during bilateral trade pact. However, the proposal is being discussed.

The TOI has reported that according to the offer, Indian companies would develop hotels and resorts as well as airports too at the island. There is also a planning to develop a port in the island. It would help to develop trade and tourism both.

However, there are two islands there, North and South Agalega. Both are over 1,000 km away from Mauritius. Mauritius is offering one or both islands to India, it depends on the development plan and project.

There are two villages, Vingt Cinq and la Fourche, in North Island. At present, only the Outer Island Development Corporation of Mauritius organizes tourism trip to Agalega.
