Morrissey blasts NME for branding him a racist

Former Smiths frontman Morrissey has been accused of being a racist once again. Accusations of this 47-year-old singer being a racist can traced back to the 1980s when the lyrics in his songs such as ‘Bengali In Platforms’ and ‘National Front Disco’ sparked off a controversy.

It’s the music weekly NME (New Musical Express) that has portrayed him as a racist, though not for the first time. But Morrisey is going to strike back this time as he has confirmed taking legal action against the NME.

He has accused it of misrepresenting him and portraying him as a racist in order to attract publicity and boost up their sales.

It all started when he made some comments about the influx of immigrants into England, stating that the increase in the number of immigrants is causing the British identity disappear. The interviewer Tim Jonze disapproved of Morrissey’s comments and regarded them as ‘offensive’. In his defense, Morrissey said that he completely hates racism or oppression of any kind and will not tolerate on being branded as a racist. Although Morrissey’s lawyers are pressing legal charges, the magazine is in no mood to print a retraction or apology.
