Mr. Whipple actor Dick Wilson dead at 91

Monday is a sad day in TV land. Dick Wilson, the actor who for 21 years played an uptight grocer begging customers ‘Please, don’t squeeze the Charmin,’ died Monday at 91.

Dick Wilson, who earned an enduring place in U.S. pop culture for his TV commercial role as Mr. Whipple, died of natural causes at the Motion Picture and Television Hospital in Los Angeles. His daughter Melanie Wilson, who played Jennifer, the flight attendant on ABC sitcom ‘Perfect Strangers’ confirmed the report.

Wilson made more than 500 commercials as Mr. George Whipple and also played small roles on Bewitched, Hogan’s Heroes and The Bob Newhart Show.

Wilson is survived by his wife, Meg, three children and five grandchildren.
