The verdict for Indian Idol 3 is finally out and after months of talent hunt by Sony Entertainment Television’s musical reality show, Indian Idol, Prashant Tamang judged as the new Indian Idol. The three-hour grand finale show held in National Small Industries Corporation Ground, Okhla, New Delhi on Sunday evening.

The crowd gathered at the place saw performances from the top 13 contestants of Indian Idol. They were blessed with the stunning performances given by Mika, Alisha Chinnai, Anu Malik, Udit Narayan and Sukhwinder.

John Abraham, who came at the end of the show, declared Prashant as the winner of the contest. Prashant, who is a 24-year-old constable from West Bengal Police, looked unable to hold back his tears when he heard the final judgment. His mother, who was present at the show, broke down in tears also.

The other contestant, Amit Paul from Shillong, greeted Prashant with a great hug. Both finalists, Prashant and Amit, won a Maruti SX4 car each. Prashant also bagged a Rs 1 crore contract with Sony television as well. Both finalists received a surprising seven crore votes since the beginning of the contest, Indian Idol 3.

The judges in the show wanted to see Amit Paul as the new Indian idol. Javed akhtar said that he would have preferred Amit Paul as winner in the contest. Alisha Chinai, another judge in the contest, echoed with Javed Akhtar and voted for Amit Paul as Indian Idol 3. She also said that both singers were equally talented and are winners.

But, the format of the musical talent hunt show selects winner on the basis of people’s verdict and the people’s verdict was different from that of the judges. Prashant Tamang, a constable in the West Bengal Police, became more favourite singer for people than Amit Paul. The decision was influenced by more than seven crore votes came from the people across the country.

Prashant said:

I am very happy that I am the Indian Idol today. I always dreamt I will be very famous.

Amit paul said:

He is a very nice guy. I am very happy that he is the Indian Idol.

Prashant, the new Indian Idol, further thanked his mother and the West Bengal police force for giving him permission to participate in the contest.

According to the report, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also enjoyed the exciting finale of the Great musical contest on Sunday night. PM’s media advisor, sanjay Baru, said that the Prime Minister watched the final on television. He enjoyed the show.
