The rule of the law has finally established its supremacy and served justice to the family of the victim Chhote Lal Gupta, a CPI-ML activist in Siwan. The controversial RJD MP from Siwan, Mohammad Shahabuddin had charged for the kidnapping and murder of Chhote Lal Gupta in 2004. On Saturday, a local court in Siwan held Shahabuddin guilty for Chhote Lal’s kidnapping and murder.
According to the report, Additional District and Sessions judge Gyaneshwar Prasad Srivastava has pronounced Shahabuddin as guilty under Section 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. The report said that the court would pronounce the quantum of the sentence on May 8.
According to PTI, the offence is punishable with imprisonment for life or rigorous imprisonment for a term, which may extend to ten years and a fine. However, the prosecution could not establish that the kidnapped man was murdered, as his body was never recovered. The MP was acquitted the MP in two other cases.
Earlier, RJD MP had been convicted in another criminal case on March 1. A local court in Siwan had convicted Shahabuddin in the connection with the assault of a CPI-ML worker eight years ago.
On the completion of the trial, Judicial Magistrate Vishwa Vibhuti Gupta found the RJD MP guilty of the charges and awarded 2-years’ imprisonment to Shahabuddin.
Shahabuddin, MP from Siwan, is facing more than 30 cases including those of murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and violation of the Foreign Exchange Act and the Arms Act. Charge sheets have been filed in all these cases.
Earlier in April, the Bihar Government had issued orders to stop providing RJD MP the facilities meant for divisional prisoners followed by a report submitted from Siwan DM SK Mall.
In this report it was stated that Shahabuddin was responsible for the violent fight inside the jail between two groups of prisoners in March. In that clash, more than ten prisoners were injured.
Now, Shahabuddin is getting no extra bed, cook, newspapers, magazine and food cooked outside prison. However, he is getting all the medical facilities as he was getting before.
