Tennessee girl crowned Miss USA 2007

miss usa 2007 2263The stars were definitely favouring Rachel Smith, a journalism graduate from Tennessee, as she was crowned the new Miss USA amidst a glittering atmosphere filled with 50 other aspiring beauty queens.

The 21-year-old Tennessee beauty is a graduate from Belmont University and has done internship last year with the production company that runs The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Rachel Smith‘s crowning ceremony ended the scandalous reign of Tara Conner, her predeccessor.

On her way to the crown, Smith defeated Meagan Yvonne Tandy of California, Cara Renee Gorges of Kansas, Helen Salas of Nevada, and Danielle Lacourse of Rhode Island.

The star-studded show didn’t remain untouched by Conner’s scandalous reign as it opened with a string of news and interview clips about Conner’s woes. Then the 21-year-old Tara Conner, who crowned her successor, said to wild applause from the audience as she emerged on the stage wearing a strapless, ruffled gown.

It has been the most unforgettable year of my life and I’m back, and better than ever.
